Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Pastry Chef with daily operations and act as the point of contact in their absence.
  • Bake and prepare pastry items according to specifications and recipes, ensuring consistency and quality.
  • Monitor wastage and ensure tasks are completed within the given time to meet strict production deadlines.
  • Report to the Sous Chef, providing updates on team performance and operational needs.
  • Motivate and guide team members, ensuring all workstations are clean and organized.
  • Participate in on-the-job training and provide support to team members, ensuring high standards of productivity and quality.
  • Comply with all food safety and hygiene regulations as outlined in the food safety management system handbook.
  • Report any issues with the food safety management system to the manager and hygiene and food safety team.
  • Ensure adequacy of supplies at cooking stations and follow storage guidelines according to food safety standards.
  • Maintain a positive and cooperative team environment, supporting smooth kitchen operations.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by supervisors or management.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in pastry or bakery, ideally in a high-volume production environment.
  • Certificate in culinary arts, pastry-making, baking, or a related field is desirable.
  • Strong knowledge of baking ingredients, measuring techniques, mixing methods, kitchen equipment, and baking times.
  • Proactive and highly organized, with excellent self-management skills.
  • Proven ability to handle a substantial workload while maintaining efficiency under pressure.
  • Capable of working independently and within a team-oriented environment.
  • Strong time management, ensuring timely completion of tasks while meeting strict deadlines.
  • Ability to accurately monitor and reduce wastage.
  • Solid knowledge of food safety standards.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook. 
  • Flexibility to work different shifts (including nights, weekends, and holidays) based on business needs.
